Dear companions in love and justice,
Today before sunset, before we begin Jewish year 5786, we wanted to say thank you! Thank you for your ongoing support and for accompanying us as we’ve journeyed together this year.
In 5785, Arthur “passed the lulav” to Nate as Arthur became The Shalom Center’s Prophetic Envoy and Nate became our Director.
In 5785, we had an incredible range of online programs, bringing renowned thinkers and unique perspectives together for conversations on urgent and soul-level topics.
As part of refining our strategy and approach, in 5785 we launched Cohort א, our inaugural cohort of folks from around the globe thinking and experimenting together on innovative ideas and forms of Jewish sacred justice and post-activism.
And just in the last few weeks of 5785, we’ve launched two new, timely, and exciting offerings for you - an online Books Launch Birthday Party, celebrating Arthur’s 92nd birthday and the release of his two newest books, and a 3-part online class on the weaponization, nuances, and dynamics of antisemitism with our Board President, Cherie Brown.

Arthur turns 92 on October 12th. Since turning 90, he has written two new books, Tales of Spirit Rising and Sometimes Falling andHandbook for Heretics and Prophets: A New Torah for a New World!
Join us in celebrating with a books launch birthday party. Arthur, Phyllis Berman, Amichai Lau-Lavie, Jill Hammer, Shefa Gold, Elyse Wechterman, and Hadasah Yaqob-Johnson will be in conversation about the books and their themes.
Music will be performed by Batya Levine and Nate DeGroot will host. There will be cake.

In this three-part series, Cherie Brown will unpack the histories, confusions, and nuances connected to contemporary antisemitism.
The dynamics at the core of this exploration continue to intensify and heighten by the day. With antisemitism being weaponized by Christian Nationalists from the White House to college campuses and beyond, Israel and the US in cahoots, escalating the horrific annihilation of Gaza, and the Jewish community at the brink with itself and progressives more broadly, this class isn’t just timely, it’s playing out in real-time.
Each session will have an initial presentation by Cherie, followed by small group interaction and listening time, and then time for questions.
