Cohort ב (Bet) — launching August 13th, 2026 — is an experimental cohort in the overlap of activism, art, and spirit-work, where together, members will:
Weave relationship and emergent collaboration.
Explore the intellectual, spiritual, and strategic contours of Jewish post-activism and sacred justice.
Craft a public project as an offering of sacred justice or expression of Jewish post-activism.

Cohort Year: November ‘26 - August ‘27 (Jewish Year: 5787)

For the sake of long-term cohort cohesion and building a robust and consistent container, cohort members will commit to:
Attend one 90 minute Zoom meeting monthly from November '26 through August '27.
Engage in meaningful asynchronous work between sessions.
Attend an in-person convening in Kalamazoo, MI from Monday evening, XXXXXX through Thursday afternoon, XXXXXX.

A key part of Cohort ב will be members’ projects. These expressions of Jewish post-activism are opportunities to apply insights and inspiration from the cohort into public sacred justice offerings. A few notes on projects:
Projects can be any scope or modality.
Projects can be uniquely developed for Cohort ב, or you can apply your learnings from Cohort ב to a project you’re already working on.
You can do your project alone or collaborate as you wish.

As compensation for your participation in Cohort ב, The Shalom Center will:
Pay you a $1,000 stipend, dispersed over the cohort year.
Pay your airfare, room, and board for the in-person convening.
Reimburse you at least $600 for capstone project costs.

Background

The Shalom Center is stewarding and seeding an emergent Jewish sacred justice.
We understand the various crises of our day as symptoms of a root spiritual crisis. As a hub, think-tank, and laboratory for experiments in Jewish post-activism and sacred justice, we develop creative Jewish content and curate innovative and embodied Jewish ritual to transform that spiritual root towards more wholeness, dignity, and collective thriving.
Founded by Reb Arthur Waskow z"l in 1983, our current work includes leading-edge cohorts in the overlap of activism, art, and spirit-work, robust and timely digital learning and thought leadership, and ecosystem-wide tending and catalyzing.

Since 2023, when The Shalom Center’s Rabbi Nate DeGroot and Bayo Akomolafe intertwined ideas of post-activism and Jewish wisdom in a conversation published by Ayin Press, The Shalom Center has become a unique hub for creative thinkers, unconventional activists, and ritual artists from around the country and world to explore fields of thought related to Jewish post-activism and experiment with creative expressions of it.
Engaging Akomolafe’s term, “post-activism,” we are exploring: What happens when the response to the crisis is part of the crisis?

We completed our inaugural Cohort א in May 2026 and are excited to apply our learnings from that experience to our second cohort, Cohort ב.
