Susannah Heschel & Tarek El-Ariss: Talking Decently about War & Peace
On many US campuses, there was turmoil when students tried to learn or teachers tried to teach about the eruption of war between Israel and Gaza.
At Dartmouth, NPR reported, two outstanding professors led a decent conversation about deeply troubling events and values. One was a professor of Jewish studies; the other a professor of Middle Eastern studies.
The Shalom Center is bringing them together by Zoom on Sunday, January 14, from 2 to 3:30 pm Eastern Time (11:00am to 12:30pm Pacific Time). Our two remarkable teachers, Susannah Heschel and Tarek El-Ariss, will speak and all of us, in small groups on Zoom, will be able to talk warmly and compassionately with each other.
The whole event will honor the legacy of Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, as The Shalom Center has done every year since 1998, when we sponsored a world-wide teaching to mark his 25th yahrzeit (death-anniversary) and did so again last year for his 50th.
