Take Collaborative Action in the Weeks Ahead:

Tu Bishvat Virtual Lobby Day
and
Repro Shabbat

The Shalom Center is proud to be co-sponsor of upcoming action campaigns led by two of our respected partners. For the first, Jewish Earth Alliance is taking Tu Bishvat — Jewish Earth Day — as an occasion to bring community members together for discussions with legislators about climate sollutions. For the second, the National Council of Jewish Women is continuing its annual event highlighting reproductive freedom as a Jewish value.

Tu Bishvat Virtual Lobby Day for Climate Solutions with Jewish Earth Alliance
January 25, 2024

Tu Bishvat began in ancient times as a day to calculate the age of trees for the purpose of tithing. Today, it has become the Jewish Earth Day — a day to remind us of our dependence on nature and our responsibility to take care of Earth so that the Earth can take care of us.

Today Earth itself is threatened by climate change. This Tu Bishvat we can take action to accelerate the transformation that is already underway by advocating for policies to clean up the pollution caused by fossil fuels, build renewable energy capacity, and further equity by investing in communities that have suffered the most from the energy systems of the past.

You can make a difference on Tu Bishvat by joining other members of our community for virtual meetings with US Senators and staff. Jewish Earth Alliance is organizing the meetings and will provide you with everything you need to participate. It’s easy and effective!

Register now for Tu Bishvat Virtual Lobby Day!

Repro Shabbat 2024
with
National Council for Jewish Women (NCJW)
February 9-10 (Parshat Mishpatim)

Reproductive freedom is a Jewish value. National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) hosts Repro Shabbat annually on the Shabbat when we read Parshat Mishpatim, the portion of the Torah commonly used as the foundation of Judaism's approach to reproductive health, rights, and justice. In these challenging times, it is vital to understand these issues and acknowledge that our fight is far from over.

There are many ways to engage on Repro Shabbat. You can
host a Repro Shabbat event in your community or bring Repro Shabbat into your home with a gathering of family or friends or even a quiet celebration for yourself.
