On the Land with Atalya Ben-Abba

An opportunity to hear firsthand reflections and perspectives from Atalya Ben-Abba, a Jewish-Israeli peace activist and conscientious objector, reflecting on this moment in Israel/Palestine.

In 2017, Atalya Ben-Abba refused to serve in the IDF as a 19-year-old conscientious objector because she believed that peace and cooperation was the way, a belief that has only grown deeper for her in the years since.

Atalya’s story of refusing to serve in the IDF, alongside many fellow Israeli and Palestinian peers and collaborators, is the subject of the 2019 documentary, Objector.

Atalya continues to be an influential peace activist in Israel/Palestine today. She currently serves as Refuser Solidarity Network’s Media Coordinator. She manages their “Voices Against War” social media initiative, which amplifies Israelis who are demanding a political - not military - solution to the escalating crisis. In her writing , speaking, and activism, Atalya insists that equal rights for all people who live in Israel/Palestine is the only path to peace.

On this webinar, participants will get to meet Atalya, hear a bit about her background and story of refusing to serve in the IDF, get a look into her current peace activism and perspectives on this moment in history, and understand her vision for a future on the land that is rooted in peace and dignity for all.

The conversation will be moderated by The Shalom Center’s Rabbi Nate DeGroot and there will be an opportunity for questions and answers.

The Shalom Center is presenting this webinar in partnership with Fellowship of Reconciliation, Jewish Peace Fellowship, and Refuser Solidarity Network. These three organizations are organizing a US speaking tour for Atalya this Elul/September.
