No Religion is an Island

Please join us as we honor Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel’s life and legacy on the occasion of his 53rd yahrzeit (anniversary of his passing) through a close reading and discussion of his influential essay, “No Religion is an Island.”

Contemporary theologians and religious leaders will reflect on Rabbi Heschel’s pioneering interreligious contributions through the prism of this essay, exploring the interconnectedness of all life, the shared pursuit of the “living God,” and wisdom for interfaith learning, community building, and organizing today.

We are fortunate to be guided in this intentional dialogical exercise by outstanding scholar-practitioners from different traditions who are each committed to interreligious engagement and inspired by Rabbi Heschel and other such pioneering thinkers and activists.

Featuring:

  • Rabbi Or Rose

  • Dr. Celene Ibrahim

  • Prof. Judith Simmer-Brown

  • Rev. Dr. John J Thatamanil

We are honored to celebrate Rabbi Heschel’s yahrtzeit each year in collaboration with his daughter, Dr. Susannah Heschel and are continuously grateful to her.

We are also grateful to our partner on this program, The Miller Center for Interreligious Learning & Leadership of Hebrew College.
