May 4, May 28

This Sunday at 2pm ET is the second of three sessions in our Renewing Judaism series, a collaborative series with ALEPH: Alliance for Jewish Renewal. In it, we will be asking the question: What does a renewed Judaism offer us in this moment?

If you already registered for the series, you will receive a Zoom link to this Sunday’s conversation. If you have not already registered, do so now to receive a recording from last Sunday’s initial conversation, as well as Zoom links for Sunday’s call and the future-focused call happening later this month.

What does a renewed Judaism offer us in this moment?

Jewish Renewal was forged in an era of widespread counterculture. It countered a dominant Judaism and American life of the 1950s and 1960s that woefully neglected the spirit, by creatively cultivating and tending a radical and communal impulse towards sacred self expression and Oneness.

Today we are witnessing a social upheaval perhaps even more extreme than that time, but now it’s for the worse. A regressive societal dissolution aimed at stripping dignity and Democracy at record speed.

In such a time as this, what does a renewed Judaism offer us? Given that Jewish Renewal emerged as a countercultural force in its own time, how might Jewish Renewal offer us a meaningful and catalyzing counterculture for today?

To help us think through these questions, we will hear from four incredible teachers, organizers, and practitioners who are deep in the work of creating a renewed Judaism in the present: SooJi Min-Maranda, Rabbis Or Rose and Tirzah Firestone, and Ilana Sumka.

If last Sunday was a conversation amongst Jewish Renewal’s founders, this Sunday is a conversation amongst some of its brightest contemporary practitioners.
