The upcoming midterm elections in the U.S. are critical for trying to halt the brazen authoritarianism and anti-democracy policies of the Trump administration.
And the issue of U.S. support for Israel and for the policies of the Netanyahu government, alongside AIPAC’s spending in US political races, is once again front and center as wedge issues in the elections, potentially dividing the Democratic party.
These are complex issues that are not conducive to quick sound bite answers:
How do we call for ending the sale of offensive weapons to Israel without feeding antisemitism? Are candidates who challenge or oppose all U.S. military aid to Israel colluding with antisemitism? Can we take a stand against AIPAC’s role in the upcoming elections without slipping into antisemitism? How can we grow critical anti-authoritarian coalitions while holding strong differences around Israel?
Join two veteran lifetime Jewish social justice activists, Cherie Brown and Rabbi Mordechai Liebling, as they dig into these timely and fraught topics with nuance, care, and clarity.

Speaker Bios
Cherie Brown is the founder and Executive Director of the National Coalition Building Institute ( NCBI). For the past 42 years, NCBI has partnered with dozens of campuses, K- 12 schools, and community groups, training teams to replicate and train others in coalition building skills. NCBI’s newest program - Stepping into the Divide - trains college and community leaders to take on divisive issues around racism, antisemitism, and Islamophobia in a bridge-building way. Cherie has decades of experience helping Jews and non-Jews around the world understand and tackle the complex issues surrounding antisemitism. Cherie is currently the Board President of The Shalom Center.
Rabbi Mordechai Liebling is the Vice-Chair of Faith in Action, the largest faith-based grassroots network in the U.S., and on the Board of the Faith and Politics Institute, which carries on the legacy of Congressman John Lewis. He created and directed the Social Justice Organizing Program at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. He has fifty plus years of organizing experience. He has led workshops on antisemitism, racism, and Christian hegemony. He is a past president of The Shalom Center and current Board member.
