A New Great Miracle: Lighting the Future with Solar-Energy Co-ops (2022-2023)
From Hanukkah 2022/5783 to Hanukkah 2023/5784, we are aiming to help support and inspire X neighborhoods and X Jewish houses of worship to go solar. In an effort to ensure that our planet's limited natural resources last for eight generations, never mind eight nights, we are partnering with Solar United Neighbors (SUN), Hazon, and Interfaith Power & Light) to launch a national Hanukkah campaign, asserting through our actions that indeed, a great miracle can happen here. What would it look like - and what would it mean for the planet - if the US Jewish community systematically invested in solar energy over the next 12 months and beyond?
In the year ahead, SUN will provide technical support to individuals and communities wanting to go solar. Through regular meetings and check-ins, as well as individual support, they will help ensure that houses of worship understand new benefits afforded to them through the Inflation Reduction Act and walk them through the ongoing installation process. At the same time, they will help individuals and local communities navigate the logistics and maximize the savings associated with forming solar co-ops. Along the way, participants will have access to the various faith organizations for exclusive learning and inspiration, while also forming a network of peers going solar across the country.
