Tender in the midst of inward panic

Dr. Susannah Heschel in conversation with Rabbi Nate DeGroot, reflecting on selected texts from Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, in honor of his 52nd yahrtzeit and this historical moment.

The long weekend of January 17-20, 2025 is extraordinary.

It includes Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel’s 52nd yahrtzeit on Parashat Shemot, in which “a new king arises over Egypt that did not know Joseph.” It also contains the formal Inauguration of our next President, and the observance and celebration of MLK Day.

A weekend of prophets and pharaohs of epic proportions and import, we hope this webinar will offer attendees a chance to spiritually ground and intellectually orient toward the weekend and years ahead. Through exploration, reflection, and exegesis of Rabbi Heschel’s writings found in “Tender in the midst of inward panic,” the Heschel reader produced this year by The Shalom Center and Dr. Heschel, Susannah and Nate will unpack the texts and open space to consider their implication on this moment and the years ahead. There will be opportunities for dynamic question and answer.

It is not critical that you read the texts ahead of time, though we believe it may lead to a richer and deeper experience.

The webinar will be recorded and all registrants will receive a link to the recording. We invite that you make this and other such programs possible by contributing at whatever level you can below. Please contact events@theshalomcenter.org if finances are a barrier.
