Sanctuary for the Apocalypse (2 of 5)

Sanctuary for the Apocalypse

with Gabriel Meyer

Join Gabriel Meyer and The Shalom Center for a five- week sacred playshop, co-creating sanctuary (mishkan) through a virtue-cultivating design for the five-fingered humus-infused human in these revelatory times of acute global, local, and inner polycrisis.

Rooted in the basic prophetic ethical building blocks of justice, peace, love and truth from the Hebrew tradition and other sacred nectars, we shall journey together through voice, movement, and guided meditations, we shall socialize our spirit, co-create spontaneous sacred community, and learn and practice together invaluable tools. This playshop will serve as a sort of spirit medicine kit for these turbulent times. No previous experience necessary. If you can breathe, you are welcome.

Our sanctuary will slow us down once a week from our daily race. We intend to Zoom in and get nurtured, cultivating the following virtues and useful medicines for our perilous times.

  • August 4th - Overture: An eagle's view of the whole voyage, an introduction of the concepts and basic tenets of the journey, spiced with singing and readings from On the Verge of the Verb.

  • August 11th - Presence: Bridging body (earth) and spirit (fire) through thought (air) and expressive emotion and creativity (water). Becoming the Tree of Life through sound and movement, deconditioning our automated patterns through an experiential exploration of Moses' encounter with the burning bush, and dipping in song.

  • August 18th -Courage: Liberating our courage with an embodied and interdependent journey through Abraham's archetypal “lech lechah” (walkabout/vision quest), singing, journaling, and more in support of awakening our bravery.

  • August 25th - Flexibility: Exploring Hanna's prayer as the mother of classic prophecy, sacred intention in song, stretching identity, concepts of shalom and salaam as intrinsically different from Pax Romana

  • September 1st -Playfulness: "Never met a serious teacher who wasn't funny", exploring the trickster archetype through song, play, movement, self-humor, and concept. Clopening spiral with last Q&A and blessings for the way.
